Artist's Notes: Lent is a time of introspection when we prepare our hearts and minds to accept the greatest gift of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. The image entitled Miserere Nobis Domine means “Lord have mercy on us”. It is a reflection upon the contemplative state of our hearts and minds during Lent. After the preparation of our hearts, we turn in praise to accept Christ’s gift for his people. We proclaim, “Alleluia, Praise the Lord” for His sacrifice of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Sanctus Spiritus Venerat illustrates the peak of our joy. The title translated means “The Holy Spirit has come”. We celebrate the presence of the Holy Spirit that dwells in us and guides us. The Latin text that adorns the image is interspersed with rich familiar words of the Easter season stating our beliefs in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is translated in this way to retain the mystery of the ascension and to draw upon the exuberance that comes with the resurrected Christ.
